quiet

With rain forecast for later in the day I walked early this morning.

It is half-term here so much less traffic on the roads than usual and with little wind, the morning felt vey quiet and slow.

Some of the sheep appeared to be sleeping.

Peaceful stillness.

Thankfully we don't get much snow here. I agree it can be very pretty but I don't like the disruption it causes. Last year we didn't see any at all so this time although there was only a little, I took some photographs.

There was only around an inch or so, barely covering the garden,

enough to catch on twigs

and leaves.

By the time I went for a walk around lunch-time it was melting fast.

The ground was still frosty though,

I expect the sheep were glad of their warm woolly coats.

I've had a busy few weeks but today on my walk everything seemed quiet. Pale light, little breeze, soft colours - a gentle winter day.

Mallorca

Back at the end of October we spent a week in Mallorca. Life has been busy and it has taken a while to sort out my photographs. Recently I picked my favourites to make a calendar for 2015 so thirteen photographs (12 months plus the cover) from some of my favourite places on the island

The weather has turned colder now so I'm enjoying remembering the Mediterranean sun and warm temperatures.

December

Holly berries,

blue skies,

low slanting sunlight

and soft shadows.

Bright sunny days

and grey murky days

with muddy puddles.

Cold clear skies,

warm orange sunsets

and finally the holidays.

December has been a full and busy month as we deal with health problems of ageing parents and wonder how long they can remain independent, whilst at the same time watch our youngest son graduate and get a job at the other end of the country. There will be many changes in the next year.

As always, going for a walk with my camera is a good way to clear my mind and gain perspective.
